Canvas: Copy a Canvas Course

Open Settings

In the bottom left of the Course Navigation bar, click the Settings link.

Copy Course Content

In the right navigation bar, find and click the Copy this Course link.

In the dialog box that appears, for Course Name, enter the name as it reads in VeracrossLinks to an external site. then add your last name and the Academic Year. For example, Modern World History Adil 2022. This naming convention helps us locate the correct course when we search among the hundreds in our system.

For Course Code, enter an abbreviation or nickname for your course. For example, MWH. The course code will be displayed at the top of the Course Navigation menu and in the course card in the dashboard. The course code is also referred to as the reference code or short name. It can remain the same year after year and be as short as you like.

Leave the Start and End date fields empty. These fields are not required and often create more problems than solve.

Select Migration Content

To import all content from the course, select the All Content radio button [1].

If you want to select specific contentLinks to an external site., click the Select specific content radio button [2].

Note: If you select the specific content option, you are required to select the content you want to import; this action cannot be cancelled.

Adjust Events and Due Dates

If you want to adjust the due datesLinks to an external site. associated with the course events and assignments, click the Adjust events and due dates checkbox.

Create Course

Click the Create Course button.

View Current Jobs

The Current Jobs section displays the status of your copying job. Jobs that are currently running, display a progress bar indicating the time remaining to complete the import [1].

If you chose to select specific content in your course, the current job will show as Waiting for Select [2], which means you must select the content you want to importLinks to an external site..

View the content from any completed imports by accessing any link in Course Navigation.

You will also find your new course in the Unpublished Courses section of your dashboard.
